9 Point Plan

When introducing Occupational Qualifications in store for the first time the following 9 point plan may be of some help:

  1. INTRODUCTION - Good explanation of qualifications outlining the benefits to candidates
  2. IDENTIFY CANDIDATES - Work with those candidates who are interested
  3. REGISTER CANDIDATES - Send off details of candidates to IBEC Retail Skillnet Head Office
  4. LOGBOOK - Give a copy of the Logbook to each candidate
  5. RESOURCE MATERIAL - Work through the resource material with your group on a regular basis
  6. PLAN - Only complete the Assessment Plan form when you think the candidate is ready
  7. WORKPLACE ASSESSMENT - Let the candidate work normally, knowing they are being assessed
  8. JUDGE KNOWLEDGE AND PERFORMANCE - Judge the candidate against the standards outlined
  9. DECISION - Give decision ASAP, provide feedback and complete Assessment Summary

13 Week Programme

Some retailers have found using this 13 week programme is beneficial when introducing a new Occupational Qualification in store:

Week 1: Assessors meet to set objectives and review the materials

Week 2: Introduce Module to staff, distribute Candidate Booklets, allocate Resource material

Week 3: Work through pages 1 - 10

Week 4: Group discussions - pages 11 - 20

Week 5: Group discussions - pages 21 - 30

Week 6: Group discussions - pages 31 - 40

Week 7: Group discussions - pages 41 - 50

Week 8: Group discussions - pages 51 - 60

Week 9: Assessment Plan

Week 10: Question Bank

Week 11: Final Assessments and Review

Week 12: Complete Candidate Booklets

Week 13: Evaluation of module success by Assessors

This 13 week plan is simply a guideline. The process may be adjusted or extended to suit the needs of the candidates and the business.
